Amazing Artistry in Glasgow!

Monday 13 January 2020

We are committed to developing and delivering supports that listen to people and the things that matter to them.  Below is a great example of how we support people to achieve their goals!

We have been supporting Mr Springs, who is autistic, through our Glasgow services since 2016.  Once a very withdrawn and nervous person, he has been supported to build his confidence in many areas of his life which has led to him now having the confidence to make connections and attend events with friends independent of the service.

Mr Springs is a very talented artist and over time became comfortable enough to start showing his artwork to staff and express his desire to learn and develop his artwork.  Through support he was encouraged to explore this more and he started a 6 month art course at Anniesland College in 2017.  This then inspired Mr Springs to take on a higher level art course and was supported to attend Anniesland College 3 days a week studying Contemporary Art at HNC level.  He completed this course and gained his qualification in the summer of 2019.

Through further chats regarding his artwork and his plans for the future, Mr Springs decided he would like to continue his education and use his qualifications to find paid employment.  This led to him starting a further 2 year HND course in Art and Illustration at Cardonald College and is currently half way through his first year.

Mr Springs is now travelling and attending classes independently and enjoys chatting with his new friends.  He is producing amazing artwork.  We are delighted he has agreed to share one of his pieces with us.
