PBS Team Rises to the Challenge!
Our award winning Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Team have been working hard to overcome the challenges raised by COVID-19. By introducing a range of new telephone and online services, they are ensuring that staff and people with complex needs can continue to call on their expertise and support.
A new PBS Helpline means that our Positive Behaviour Support Advisors are on hand to offer advice and answer staff questions. This has been a really well used resource for staff supporting people whose routines have changed and who have difficulty adapting and understanding why.
Telephone appointments and service specific videos are helping to reduce the need for face to face contact. For example, Behavioural Support Advisors have produced bespoke video tutorials on the use of reactive plans, complete with role play examples to demonstrate how they can be implemented in a range of situations.
We remain committed to reducing the use of all restrictive practices when supporting people with behaviours of concern. To that end, the PBS Team have created a new online Crisis Management / Restraint Reduction resource that provides step by step guidance to help staff keep people safe within their homes whilst adhering to a restraint reduction approach.
Working alongside Learning and Development colleagues, the PBS Team have adapted training processes for CALM techniques so that they adhere as closely as possible to current NHS COVID-19 safety guidance, and will continue to deliver our Professional Development Award in the Management of Behaviour Support through a blend of e-learning and webinars.
Great work team!
