World Autism Awareness Day 2015
The Richmond Fellowship Scotland is committed to raising people’s understanding of autism. To support that aim we are holding a number of events across Scotland for People We Support, staff and the general public on World Autism Awareness Day, 2nd of April 2015.
Please find below a selection of the events that are being held throughout the week:
Thursday 26th March
Dunfermline Services’ Coffee Morning, 10.30-1pm, Whitelaw Service, 10 Whitelaw Road, Dunfermline. Everyone welcome. Please contact Nicky Lynch 01383 622 133 for further information.
Includes:
- Great selection of home baking
- Specially made ‘autism jigsaw cake’
- Wearing blue on the day
Wednesday 1st April
Blackford Service Celebrates Autism, 1-4pm, The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, Suite 3001 Mile End Mill, Abbey Mill Business Centre, 12 Seedhill Road, Paisley, PA1 1JS. Everyone welcome.
Includes:
- Interactive Room
- Sensory Room
- Communication Room - exploring how we all communicate
- Wearing blue for the day
Wishaw Coffee Afternoon, 1.30-3.30pm, Netherton Community Centre, Wishaw. All Welcome, £1.00 entry (50p entry to anyone wearing BLUE), Tea/Coffee/Juice and biscuits included in price. All proceeds will go to HOPE for Autism (Parents and Carers Charity).
Includes:
- Walk down Autism Lane (experience what someone with autism lives with every day)
- Home baking
- Tombola – Raffle
- Beauty Treatments (nails, massage etc)
- Beat the goalie

Thursday 2nd of April
Dumfries Services Explore the 7 senses within Autism, Urban Sanctuary, 139 Irish Street, DG1 2 NP Dumfries’. Open to individuals we support, their families, staff and professional (due to limited space), the walk is open to all.
Includes:
- 12-2pm – Lecture on the 7 Senses within autism by Dr Patricia MacTier
- 2-4pm – Fun activities around the 7 senses within autism
- 6pm evening walk taking using all the 7 senses
- Free tea/coffee and cakes available

Rutherglen and Cambuslang S.L.S hold Autism Event, 12-3pm. Everyone is welcome.
Includes:
- Pet Zoo (1-3pm)
- Great British Autism Bake off (with resident judges Mary Berry and Paul Holywood)
- Karaoke Cabin
- A masseur will be letting people experience some massage therapy
- Staff members John Bitten-O’Prey and Sarah Brittle are being sponsored to dye their hair electric blue on the day

Inverness Open Day, 12-4pm, The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, North Regional Office, First Floor, Metropolitan House, 31-33 High Street, Inverness IV1 1HT. Everyone is welcome.
Includes:
- Autism quizzes and tests
- Interactive communication tools
- Home baking
- The opportunity for people to complete a job application and be interviewed on the day
- Also there will be stalls at the local college and in Eastgate Shopping Centre during the week of World Autism Awareness Day
Cherry Tree Court Service Lights up for Autism, for staff and people we support. Includes:
- Wearing blue for autism
- Blue Disco in the evening
Coffee and Cake afternoon in Saltcoats, 12-3pm, The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, North Ayrshire Area Office. For staff, people we support and their family and carers.
Includes:
- Raffles and prize draws
- Great range of home baking
- And much more to come!
Launching the Good Autism Practice Group at Head Office, Stepps, 11-2pm.
Staff from The Richmond Fellowship Scotland will be attending the first meeting of this group which will focus on Sensory Differences in Autism and sharing good practice.
Also, we will be wearing blue for autism and there will be various autism games and quizzes with prizes including autism spectrum cupcakes!
Sunday 19th of April
The Keep on Moving group presents ‘Baltic’ the musical, 1-2pm, Travellers Rest, 11-13 Neilston Road, Glasgow G78 3NT Neilston. Everyone welcome and entry is free of charge but seats are limited so please contact Noleen Harte or Richard Lawrence on 0141 880 7170.
This show is being funded by The Richmond Fellowship Scotland’s Participatory Fund. There will be a raffle at the event.
