TRFS makes waves with S.H.I.P. and Splash

Thursday 14 May 2015

On May 14th we took part in a fantastic training event for the volunteers of S.H.I.P. and Splash in Perth.

S.H.I.P. and Splash offer holiday respite and youth clubs for children with additional needs in Perth and Kinross. They work with children aged between 5 and 18, supporting them to access the community in a fun and safe way.  The day consisted of team building events and three short workshops provided by Tia Martin, from the Positive Behaviour Support Team. The workshops provided covered ‘An Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders’, ‘An Introduction to Communication’ and ‘An Introduction to Working with Challenging Behaviour.’

Twenty-five volunteers aged 15+ were awarded their certificates of attendance. TRFS would like to say well done for a great effort on all their parts!

Feedback from the volunteers was extremely positive. Many mentioned they feel more confident in applying intensive interaction into different scenarios, how to deal with challenging behaviour and what causes service users to show these behaviours. Volunteers have also been keen to implement positive reinforcement techniques with many of our service users. Everyone at SHIP and Splash would like to thank TRFS for providing us with such as interesting and rewarding day!”
