Health & Safety Week Competiton Winner
During Health and Safety Week we ran a competition for the best health and safety related idea or suggestion. Robin Shaw, from our insurers AON, was our impartial judge. He took all 42 entries and considered each entry against criteria such as innovation, originality, ease of implementation, improvements to safety, empowerment, and its relevance to the organisation.
Robin said that it was very encouraging to see staff engaging and thinking about safety and submitting their ideas in this way. It was a very difficult task to pick an overall winner. However, a choice had to be made and we would like to congratulate Lynsey Scott from the Blackford Service for her great idea.
Lynsey’s submission described a way to motivate services to achieve excellent health and safety standards by offering an award for the top three services with the highest scores in their Health & Safety Audits. Her idea was to publish a league table of service scores. This would motivate staff and services to achieve good scores and try to win an award for their achievements as well as driving up the standards.
Well done to Lynsey who was presented with her prize of Apple iPad by Robin Shaw at the AON Head Office in Glasgow.
Some of the other great ideas submitted were as follows; training supported individuals to be Fire Wardens – have the H&S Week as an annual event – cycle to work initiative – pocket booklet of H&S hints – H&S as part of supervisions - “Don’t be hasty with health and safety” strap line - hazard perception exercise – and many more.
The Health & Safety Team would like to thank all of the people who took the time to submit their entries.
