Making Improvements - New Support Planning Workshops
As well as our support staff continually working hard on developing support plans, our Learning and Development colleagues have been hard at work recently rolling out a new programme of support planning workshops. These workshops are designed to further enhance managers’ skills and confidence around support planning and support plan auditing. The workshops are being delivered to Seniors and Team Managers across the country and are aimed to specifically skill managers in the audit process, clarify how to best make use of the support planning tools and how to use the audit tools to make positive improvements.
Feedback from Managers who have attended these sessions has been positive, with managers feeling more confident and skilled, in not only applying what they have learned themselves, but also in their ability to mentor other staff to complete plans and carry out further audits.
“I felt the new Support Plan training empowered me with confidence, as I increased my knowledge and understanding on what should be included in the Step By Step Instructions, furthermore I learned new skills on how to monitor goals and review outcomes using the ‘Thinking Tools’. I thoroughly enjoyed the Support Plan training as it broke down all the different sections using simplified teaching skills and gave clarity of things I was unsure of”. (SSW, Renfrewshire)
This new approach to training forms part of our organisational commitment to continuous improvement. Alongside this, the Development Team have also been visiting all area meetings to gather feedback on; the support planning process, how it is working for them and what role the audit tool currently plays in this. This information along with feedback from the workshops helps us gauge where we are currently, as well as informing our organisational planning on how we can continue to support staff and services going forward, as they work on enhancing support plans to ensure the best possible outcomes for the people we support.
