Dr Gary Tanner
Gary is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and was Director of Psychological Services for NHS Lanarkshire from 2012 until his retirement in 2022. He was also Clinical Director for NHS Lanarkshire Addiction Services from 2004 until 2012.
He obtained his first degree in Psychology from the University of Strathclyde, and then moved to Canada. He completed his MSc in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary, before returning to the UK and getting his Doctorate in Psychology.
In 2017, he was appointed Specialty Advisor for Psychology to the Chief Medical Officer, and served in this role until 2019. He served on the board of Aberlour Children’s Charity until 2018, and was on the board of the Glasgow Council on Alcohol. He is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Now retired from the NHS, holds a Statutory appointment with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Chair of the Investigating Committee (Fitness to Practice).
Finally, Gary is a member of the famous “Tartan Army” and follows the Scotland football team home and away!
